Gregory Porter (USA) American singer and composer Gregory Porter, one of the world’s top jazz and soul musicians, will give a unique concert between the walls of Pirita Monastery on the evening of 4 July. The multiple Grammy winner will be visiting Tallinn as part of his extensive European tour. Born in California, Gregory Porter was exposed to music early in his childhood singing in a church choir. Later, after moving to New York, he began to pursue a solo career more seriously, and success soon followed. In 2013, Gregory released his third solo album Liquid Spirit, which won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album the following year. The album also enjoyed commercial success, something that jazz music rarely enjoys, reaching the top 10 in the British album charts, among others. In 2017, he won a second Grammy for his fourth album Take Me to the Alley. Over the years, Gregory Porter has also collaborated successfully with a number of electronic music artists. He has also contributed his voice to British duo Disclosure’s hit single “Holding On”, and enjoyed international success in clubs and on the radio with the Claptone remix of the song “Liquid Spirit”. Gregory Porter is a sought-after performer at some of the world’s biggest venues and festivals, having performed at the Glastonbury Festival, the London Jazz Festival, Royal Albert Hall, and many others. For the first time, the soft and soulful voice of this much-loved jazz/blues/gospel/soul artist will resound within the ancient walls of Pirita Monastery.
